Why Do We  Need A Donkey Refuge  - by Shirley
I was down at  the Barn tonight letting the Mammoths in to get away from the flies and to visit  with Jose' who seems a little lonely and had been put in  with Sadie and Hoss  for a relaxing night of rest.  As I was enjoying lots of hugs with Jose' I  thought about why this Refuge was necessary.  Why are there so many donkeys  needing to come to the Refuge and why do we all work so hard to keep everything  running so smoothly.  It is because these wonderful donkeys deserve so much more  in their life than their previous owners provided. It is because some of the  donkeys were sorely neglected and their health and well being were in jeopardy.  It is because Donkeys were made to give so much gentle love to their owners and  therefore are easily vulnerable to abuse.  I then got to thinking about the New  Barn that must be built before Winter and how we  are busy trying to fund raise  enough money to get the barn built.  I thought of Sadie a new resident to the  Refuge who is over 30 years old and needs a good warm stall to keep her  comfortable for the winter.  I thought of little Hoss who is only three years  old and who has already been neglected bordering on abuse, whose little feet are  going to need up to two years of farrier correction to straighten out the bones  in his legs and hoof and who will need a good stall once the icy weather  arrives.  And of course I thought of Sara, Jose, Ruby,  who all need special  care now because of various health issues.  I thought of the other donkeys  wanting to come here who are waiting for the New Barn as well.

This Barn Project is only about needing more space for all the Very Special Donkeys that reside at the Refuge now and in the future who  need your help.  For those of you that had the opportunity to visit the
Refuge this year and met the Herds and saw and felt the joy of Donkey Love you know what I say is true.  These incredible loving animals are worth every kindness that we can give them.  So please if you can help by giving no matter how much please click on Donations and help us help these wonderful  donkeys.  An Official Tax Receipt will be issued and you will be giving to a very worthy cause with all proceeds going to care of the Donkeys.  This Refuge is run on all  Volunteers Hours including Rob and I so you know that your money will be spent  wisely.

Thank you so much for caring enough to assist us in any way possible. Thank you for listening to something that is very dear to our hearts.   Thank you so much for donating what you can.  Help us raise the funds so desperately needed and watch the thermomater rise with each Donation received.  Lets get this Barn built as soon as possible .   The land is cleared and the  fencing is all done. The barn building  has been started.  We are so close all  we need is your help.
HOW TO GET THERE - Driving  Directions from Highway.   Turn off Highway between Sorrento and Chase B.C. at the Squilax  Bridge/Adams Lake exit.  Do not go over the bridge but turn left on to  Squilax/Turtle Valley Road.  Follow this road up a long hill until you come to a  junction.  Turn left on to Skimikin Rd.  Follow Skimikin Road until you come to  Phillips Lake (there are two big yellow barns at this junction.  The road veers  left you go straight on to Ptarmigan Rd.  We are the third farm on the right and  Phillips Lake is on the left.    1125 Ptarmigan Rd.  Watch for signs and please  do not follow the Google Directions as they are too confusing.  Call them if you  wish to discuss further the best way for you to get there.    For more information, visit their website at   http://turtlevalleydonkeyrefuge.webs.com/
